The Center for the Study of Economic Liberty is hosting a one-day online workshop of research papers which significantly utilize data from the Doing Business North America (DBNA) report dataset. DBNA is the first dataset to incorporate city-level regulations regarding business operation with the relevant state regulatory environment, and now provides four years of comprehensive data. Public Finance Review will publish workshop papers which successfully pass through peer review in a special issue.
The online workshop will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024 via Zoom.
This workshop is funded in part by a grant from the Institute for Humane Studies at George Mason University.

Public Finance Review presents rigorous empirical and theoretical papers on public economic policies, as well as examining and critiquing their impact and consequences. The journal analyses the nature and function of evolving governmental fiscal policies at the national, state, and local levels. Each peer-reviewed issue explores a variety of subject areas, bringing you comprehensive coverage of the public sector economy today. Economists, policy makers, political scientists, and researchers all rely on Public Finance Review, to bring them the most up-to-date information on the ever-changing issues in public economics, and to help them put policies and research into action.
We invite proposals for papers that complement the economic freedom literature with research focused on the DBNA dataset. If you would like to present at the Workshop, please provide an abstract of no more than 250 words and a 2-page CV.
Submissions that do not meet these requirements will not be considered.
Accepted participants will receive $500 after the workshop from the Institute for Humane Studies at George Mason University in support of this workshop.
The deadline for submissions has been extended to May 20, 2024. Notifications will be sent shortly after. Working papers for the online workshop will be due by August 12, 2024.
If you have any questions, please email CSELConference@asu.edu.
Papers that successfully pass peer-review will be published in a special issue of Public Finance Review, which publishes papers related to local-level questions of taxation and expenditures, and their ultimate effect on the well-being of society. PFR has a readership of over 3,000 scholars.
